Anyway, being focused on the flying is something that he's doing, despite the temporary eye closing. The fact that he's getting to flex his piloting muscle ... doesn't make him more at ease with the mission, but it's a lot more comforting than worrying in the back of a car. At least something about this bizarre experience feels kind of normal to him.
She doesn't need to be awake for this. Likely the whole experience has taken more out of her than she lets on and by his calculations, they're more than two hours out from their destination. She ought to sleep some when she can.
